MUUS and COVID-19
LIVING OUR VALUES & PRINCIPLES During the Time of COVID-19
Even during difficult times we are called to live by our values and Unitarian Universalist Principles. Some of the ways we can practice our faith during this time are simple and may seem obvious but it’s important to remind ourselves of who we want to be and how we want to be in the world.
In this age of “fake news,” be discerning, reasonable, and vet information intelligently. ONLY share information from the most reliable sources (see our list below – let us know what to add to it). If you do go out and need to purchase things, try to support local businesses. If you have the means, buy gift certificates from restaurants and other businesses that will be losing business during a time a like this. If you live in an apartment building or condo community, or a planned neighborhood, help to organize things in your community such as rides shares, child care partnerships, keeping tabs on the more seriously ill and home-bound, food and other supply sharing. Support services for people experiencing homelessness and hunger, such as shelters and food banks. This support might be financial contributions, volunteering, or spreading the word of available help and resources. Combat racism and oppression when it rises – the corona virus is NOT a “Chinese” virus or a “foreign virus.” Viruses have no ethnic group, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or nationality. Viruses infect and kill indiscriminately.
Please continue to fulfill your pledge and otherwise financially support the congregation.
Making Lemonade
MUUS took advantage of not being able to meet in person indoors during the pandemic, to save money, by ending our lease and beginning the process of buying our own building. In the interim we will be meeting at UCCS at 283 Main Street North in Southbury. Please see our calendar and worship announcements for further information.
